Dr. Mike Patterson is an author, speaker, consultant, and coach committed to helping leaders accomplish more with, through, and for people. He is the author of the highly acclaimed book, Mission First People Always: The Definitive Guide to Balancing People and Performance, and co-author of Have a Nice Conflict: How to Find Success and Satisfaction in the Most Unusual Places. He has also authored or co-authored several successful training programs and is the host of the chart-topping podcast Mission First People Always: Great Leaders. Great Teams.
Dr. Mike teaches in the doctoral programs at Pepperdine University's Graduate of Education and Psychology and California Baptist University. His area of scholarship is adult learning theory and training transfer, but he teaches courses in organizational behavior, leadership, and learning design and evaluation. He has also taught in the masters program in organizational psychology (MSOP) at Vanguard University, as well as undergraduate business courses at Concordia University. He has guest lectured at Loma Linda University's School of Public Health and Walla Walla University.
For 10-years, Dr. Mike was a principal at Core Strengths, the global talent development company that publishes the well-known psychometric assessment, SDI 2.0, Core Strengths training, and the Core Strengths performance support platform. Dr. Mike represented the brand as an international speaker and thought leader, and helped the company grow by 400%. He continues to use the SDI 2.0 and promote Relationship Intelligence in nearly all of his client engagements.
Prior to joining Core Strengths, Dr. Mike spent 20-years in the pharmaceutical industry, rising to become the Director of Leadership and Employee Development for TAP Pharmaceuticals and later, Takeda Pharmaceuticals America. Earlier in his career at TAP, he led sales teams of ten to 120, was the product manager for a $4 Billion dollar brand, and was a sales trainer. Dr. Mike began his career as a U.S. Army officer.
Dr. Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College in Wheaton, IL, a Master of Public Administration from Troy University, a Master of Arts from Biola University, and a Certificate in Biblical Studies from Talbot School of Theology. Dr. Mike earned his doctorate in education from Pepperdine University's Graduate School of Education and Psychology. His dissertation, Factors Affecting Training Transfer in a Sales Organization, was designated a distinguished dissertation by the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI).
